THIS IS THE JET'S HOUSE, BITCHES!

« on: April 17, 2011, 04:49:24 AM »

I don't know why I hadn't noticed this or even thought about it sooner since I'm a huge Halloween fan and consider the original my favorite movie of all time. But today while rewatching Halloween (1978) something hit me: Why didn't Brackett as Sheriff of Haddonfield ALREADY KNOW about Michael's escape BEFORE Loomis told him? I mean, in both the classic original and in Zombie's remake neither Brackett nor anyone in his department knew about Michael Myers breaking out of Smith's Grove until Loomis told them! How does that even happen? Especially since we know that serial killers like Michael Myers will have a pathological tendency to return to the scene of their crimes and all fleeing criminals will tend to find a place familiar to hide whenever they can; even those trying to escape into Canada or Mexico or whatever will often lie low in familiar places while planning their exit strategy. Why had NOBODY informed the Sheriff of the escaped killer's hometown before Loomis informed him THE NEXT DAY?

I know the real explanation is just a good, old fashioned plot hole, but what about the in universe explanation? Was someone helping Michael to get back to Haddonfield? Maybe it was whoever taught him how to drive. And what about the alleged "Two roadblocks and an all points bulletin" that wouldn't stop a five year old? If an APB was actually put out then Brackett would've known because it would've gone out to all law enforcement agencies in the state.  So, was it put out at all? What does everyone else think?

Or did they know? Something might of caught up to stop them, or Loomis wanted himself only to go after him due to it being on a personall level, maybe they cowardly let Dr. Loomis go by himself.

Maybe just because it was the year, maybe back then they didn't think he'd return there so didn't think of calling anyone with a HUGE "maybe he's coming there" sorta thing

I usually don't associate something that happens in later films to have been existent in the earliest film but it could be thrown out there that Wynn and his influences on Smith's Grove had something to do with it. Obviously he didn't want his plan to go to hell if he mentioned Michael to the Haddonfield Police sooner. I never really thought about it before and just took it as the sign of the times or just a plot hole.

Yeah, which is what it actually is, a plot hole. But, the in universe possibilities are endless!

Absolutely, and it could really be chalked up as someone's interpretation. If someone was a fan of the Curse of Thorn storyline it could be said that it was existent since the first film instead of being self contained in Parts 5 and 6 only.

Very true! I like that idea actually, since I did like the Curse of Thorn concept. If it was there all along it would be a lot less poorly executed.

Well the way the head guy talked in he first one, does suggest something wacky goin on there, Im mean its still a good question............who taught Mickeal how to drive, how did he know how to get back to haddenfield, forget about how he even got out of his cell in the first place???????????????????

Im the other way, the things that happen must have a barring on past events, or else how would we ever get passed the first film.

If they left out the scene with Wynn and Loomis talking, then it could easily be said that they didn't even know Myers had escaped. A lot of patients could be seen walking around the grounds of the asylum. How did Myers get out of the locked in area none of them were wondering around outside the gates (that we could see) they could have thought Myers was somewhere inside the asylum lost, probably with other patients. So they were rounding them up. Once they got the final count it would have been too late, Loomis would have already informed the sheriff....but of course that scene with Loomis and Wynn does exist...and you'd think Loomis would have told someone from the get-go that Myers took off with his car since he was stranded at the hospital lol Wink

But once again how and why were they out there, its almost as if they were let loose to see which one would follow thier "programming" and escape.

I figured Myers escaped, had been waiting for his moment for years, let the rest go as a diversion, and he got outta there. Running into Loomis was a bonus so he could take the car.
