I don't know if anyone has ever talked about this, but I think it's pretty obvious that Loomis wasn't just prepared to shoot Michael Myers in self defense...he was flat out wanting to kill him. My reasoning:

1. He bought a gun when he got into town
2. He told Sheriff Brackett not to alert his men that Myers is on the loose...and I think it was so he could shoot him
3. Loomis waited for him at the Myers house alone...easier to shoot Myers when no one is around to witness it
4. He didn't even give Myers a warning (like "Michael...STOP!") before he started pumping off rounds into him at the end of the movie

Obviously, his intentions were good as he was trying to protect further people from dying, but I think it's also pretty clear that Loomis didn't want Myers to get locked up again. He just wanted him flat out DEAD. Nothing wrong with that, but I'm just stating the obvious I guess.

Its been awhile since I've seen this. But in regards to #4. Would YOU give someone a warning who was just trying to attack and kill two little kids and a woman? Especially when you personally know that the person is NUTS and killed in the past?

When did Loomis tell the sheriff not to have his men get involved?

When they were at the Myers house. The whole line about "they'll see him on every street corner..." basically asking him to keep his eyes open but don't stir up panic.

Well, here's the thing about the part about # 4 also...Myers was unarmed. As nuts as he may have been, a simple "let her go" may have sufficed. In real life, people usually say SOMETHING before they start opening fire on someone. I don't have a problem with it, but it just helps prove my point.

Well, I have to agree with your theory, TL. It is pretty obvious Dr. Loomis planned on killing Michael from the beginning. He knew there was really no prison who could hold him, and he knew that nobody was safe with him alive. The situation puts me in mind of something Sgt. Monk taught us in the Academy: "Some people just need killing." It's cold, but it's true. Some people truly deserve to die. However, it's a little easier when you're killing someone who CAN die.

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. Loomis was done with all the bullshit and figured the only way to put an end to it was by killing him. Obviously he had the right idea...but "you can't kill the boogeyman".

loomis all but states he should not  be let out and that MM "is not human" from the beginning sequence of the first film...as he pleads his case he describes the years hes studied and work with MM its obvious that he believes he should never see freedom again and when  he is dismissed and ignored by the board and they " lose"MM- Its pretty clear the docs intentions are to stop him "at all costs" not bring him back in.....he spent a number of years "trying reach him" at first the when he realized there was nothing human in him his motivation changed of course

Yes, he wanted to kill Michael. Serial Killer, who showed no emotions, probably couldn't be helped, so he probably did want to kill him.

Probably did, and he might have been hoping that thorazine shot he ordered Marion to give him was going to be too much for him and stop his heart, too.

Well at first he didn't want Michael dead he wanted him stay in the Smith's Grove Sanitarium and he didn't want him to be let out to go to court because Loomis knew how evil Michael is. I guess after Michael escapes Loomis knew Michael was going go back to his hometown and start killing people again so Loomis took his gun with him. And reason why he told the Cops not to tell anyone that Michael escapes because he didn't want people go out and try to find him because either Michale would kill them or someone would make a mistake and kill someone who they think is Michael like what happen in Halloween 4. Now I don't blame Loomis for shooting Michael he just try to kill a teenage babysitter & 2 little kids.
