WOW Kat, reading this was a major trip down memory lane for me.  I was a member of fridaythe13thfilms.com for many years in the past, and I had the same types of experiences that you and seemingly everyone else had.

Firstly, I just want to make mention of one thing: if Blake Washer has anything to do with the emails criticizing you for asking for donations, that he is a blatant hypocrite, because he did the same thing back in the day.  He got into financial peril at one point and asked publicly for donations to keep fridaythe13thfilms alive.  I remember because I contributed some money to help the site continue.  My reward for this was my own custom avatar.  Read on for the fate of that avatar….

But, I did hear MANY stories about them banning people for no reason

Hell, they posted the ban list back then so everybody could laugh at those banned.  Most people were banned for stupid reasons, and the list was very extensive.  Blake would also lock threads just because he didn’t like the topic – I remember someone posted “Why didn’t JASON X make money?” and Blake said “because you didn’t go see it” and then locked the thread.  I mean, how asinine can you be?  That could’ve sparked an intelligent discussion about internet piracy, Jason’s relevance, etc, but Blake cut it short with his idiocy.  He did things like that all the time.  He and Brenna also stripped people of their moderator status for stupid reasons.  I remember a fellow called Luigi who was demoted because he left early from the summer camp they ran one year.  They teased (tormented) him unremittingly in public, saying that he left because he missed his mommy, etc.  I don’t know the whole story on why he left the camp, but that’s how they treated him afterwards.

And anybody, and I do mean ANYBODY who stood up for themselves got banned or treated harshly.  Bottom line was, Blake Washer was temperamental, immature, and very much akin to a schoolyard bully.  His infantile behavior was ridiculous and it was really a shame, since there were a huge number of members when I was there, and they were all very passionate and knowledgeable about FRIDAY THE 13TH.

He also claimed that I was bootlegging movies, If owning some of the uncut versions was the crime he was accusing me of, well then he should have fallen under that category as well.

Speaking of stupid reasons to be banned!  Blake would ban people just for TALKING about watching a JASON X bootleg.  And yes, he admitted that he owned all the other bootlegs besides that one.  Because those were older bootlegs, I guess that makes them somehow less illegal to watch/own, eh Blake?

I had a free chat room that he apparently was some sort of moderator at and for no reason he banned all my moderators, and then pretended to be us, so when new people came in the chat room he made us all out to look like idiots. I mean it was really childish stuff.

That’s exactly the way he and Brenna always acted in their own chat room.  If you weren’t a part of the clique, you’d get bullied (and I mean internet-harassed) relentlessly by the two of them and their fellow mods.  And THEN, if you dared complain on the forums about the chatroom, you’d be banned for that!

Blake banned me from other chatrooms for no reason -- chatrooms that were not his, yet for some reason, he had moderator authority.

In the end that website is now run by other people - thank god. So now the newer generations don't have to deal with Blake and whatever his girlfriends name was lol.

Blake was always unkind to me, but for years, I got along with Brenna O’Brien just fine.  I talked to her a lot more, on the forums, via PMs, and via emails from time to time.  I got to know everybody there pretty well since I was a member for about 6 years.  But after awhile, I got tired of the battles with mods, and my relationship with Brenna started to disintegrate.

I remember complaining to Brenna about the way certain mods governed the place, the way that they gave preferential treatment and tolerated bad behavior by members that they “liked”, while threatening or banning people they didn’t like for much less reasons.  She responded by telling me that she’d handle it, but then went behind my back and told one of the mods in question that I had “tattled”, and he came at me stronger than ever.  That instance of backstabbing made me really question a person that I had come to trust over the years that we’d been speaking to one another.

I also remember Brenna fired off a vicious, unfounded rant against me in public just because I didn’t answer a thread question the way she wanted me to.  She later admitted that she lashed out because she wanted me to “share my feelings on the issue” more than I did, and also admitted her rant was based on things about me that she didn’t like that weren’t even related to the thread.  Of course, a few ass kissers backed her up, but I fired right back at her and let her know in no uncertain terms that she wasn’t going to treat me that way.  To her credit, she apologized, but by then, I just felt incredibly distrustful towards her.  Eventually I left, and I privately told Brenna all the reasons why.  I kept in touch with her awhile after I left.  She probably wouldn’t admit this now, but she asked me to come back to the forum several times and I refused as politely as I could, and eventually we lost touch.

After contact had been fully abandoned, they changed my custom avatar to a motion image of a monkey jacking off and ejaculating.  Only Blake and Brenna had the ability to change the custom avatars, so I suppose that was my thanks for sending money and supporting the site.  So that let me know that leaving that place was the right decision.  I went back to the forums only to delete my account permanently so that no more “monkey business” could be conducted with my avatar.

Oh yes, and a few bitter members of that site hounded me on other sites for some time after that as well.

It was good to get this out there, as I never really got the chance to get this all off my chest back then.  It was really agonizing, thinking how much time I contributed to that site, and how I defended it from other people who (rightly) criticized the way it was run.

I’m actually amazed to read all of your stories and that they synch up with mine.  One of the things that Blake and Brenna were always good at was making you feel isolated and that nobody agreed with your feelings on how you were being treated.  Glad to know that wasn’t the case; that we all dealt with the bullshit over there.

I haven’t always agreed with everyone or everything around here, but this site is MUCH friendlier than fridayth13thfilms.com ever was back then.  As I said, it’s really a shame too, because that site was huge in its heyday with all the great members that were contributing.  And the pleasure was all YOURS, Blake and Brenna.  Too bad you never appreciated it!

Wow Dizzy, thats quite the situation. I had heard small stories here and there. I had never heard about that one moderator. That's a shame. That's just completely unprofessional. Which I knew they were from hearing the other stories, but what always boggled my mind was that cast and crew members LOVED them.

And I still think that they have something to do with cast & crew members no longer responding to my emails. I used to talk a LOT with quite a few of them and I get no responses anymore. To be 100% honest though, I did lose 1 persons email address that I was closer with. So thats my own fault.

I guess in the end they let the power they thought they had get to them. Be proud to run or own a great site, but don't be a jerk about it.

To be honest the morning I woke up and someone said that site was down I seriously...no joke...clapped and jumped for joy saying "yes yes yes there is a god" I hadn't been hounded by them in awhile. But it just made me feel better knowing they wouldn't be causing me anymore trouble...

That's because they kissed their asses like there was no tomorrow.  I remember Steve Daskawicz was posting there for awhile, and you wouldn't believe the lip service the mods gave him.  For while, the cool thing to do was bash Warrington Gillette simply because Daskawicz was mouthing off like crazy about him.  And I don't mean "getting the story straight" about who played Jason, I mean just really superfluous derisive remarks.  I actually stood up to Daskawicz about the way he was speaking about Gillette and basically told him to get over all the things that happened 20+ years ago, and I got assaulted like mad by the mods for that.

I think the JASON X folks liked Blake because of all the archive material he provided them or something.  Blake's name does appear in the special thanks section at the end of JASON X, and he and his site were mentioned on the JX commentary by Todd Farmer.

Yeah I remember him being mentioned in that. I also recall hearing him being a kiss ass to them. Never heard of any examples or anything though.

I just mean, if the cast and crew were ON their message board, couldn't they see what a joke he was? If he was that bad there...like he was to me...I couldn't see them wanting to associate with that, especially when there were other outlets. Maybe because they kept LYING saying they were the official site? I'm not sure..

I started having issues with him at LEAST when Jason X was being made. And probably before that, so it was released in 2002...

That's good info to know. Thanks for mentioning it. I think that since it's a blog and they are comments, not everyone thinks to respond to others comments. I know it sounds silly, but from what I have seen, that might be an explanation. I'll see what I can do to increase conversation.

The server tanked in July 2007. He sold the website after that. There was a lot of craziness on the website before then. I can attest to that.

It happen to me in 2003 i was watching one of the movies & was chatting on the chatroom because for some reson no one was in Shivers of Horror Chatroom or Y2K chat and i wanted to Chat and i ask someone a question about Jason and next thing i got banned from the chatroom
