I love Ronny Yu as an ACTION director, he has made some awesome action movies here and in Hong Kong, but he has no business directing horror movies.
I totally agree. I really enjoy movies like Fearless and Formula 51. But the as a director of HORROR, Ronny is total hack. Even Irate Gamer knows about good humor much more
than, Ronny knows about the suspense.

Yeah I agree with ya StruckWorld, the Chucky series is definitely enjoyable.. Since it was so long ago I actually had seen Seed of Chucky, I watched it today to remember what it was like and yeah I enjoyed it too! It wasn't as good as Bride of Chucky, but it was still lots of fun and it had some good kills.
And Jet:
I'm not sure that any of Ronny's movies really can be considered horror, I mean FvJ was more of a Slasher/Action/comedy and the same thing with Bride of Chucky. They can't really be called horror IMO... Yeah if u go to the video store to go rent them, they'll probably be under horror, but I know that even when I see the names of the movie without even knowing what the movie was about, I knew they weren't serious horror movies. I mean for real "Freddy VS Jason" could never have been a serious horror flick, the name says it all and "Bride of Chucky" just sounds like it's gonna be a funny slasher flick, so you already know what to expect.. Anyway that's just my opinion. When I saw those movies I never expected to get a good scary movie, I expected a fun campy slasher flick..

Yeah, but therein lies the problem. He took three serious horror series, and Child's Play was a classic before the whole Bride/Seed of Chucky ordeal, and instead of giving us the horror films, the real hardcore horror films, that we wanted gave us drivel. He took Freddy and Jason and Chucky and turned them from boogeymen into punchlines and they deserved better. If he wants to do 1000000 more movies with Jet Li, I will go to see every one of them, but Ronny Yu-suck at horror!

'FvsJ' was contained MUCH more comedy than slasher or action...

Well that's not Ronny Yu's fault because he's not the man who wrote the script and it's not him who gave the green light for the script. Don Mancino, the creator of Child's Play has been involved in producing all of the Chucky movies and he is the one to blame if u don't like what Chucky turned in to. Same thing with FvJ, both Freddy & Jason had turned in to slasher comedies (specially Freddy) long before Ronny Yu came on board. ANOES part 4-6 are all slasher comedies. F13th part 6, had a lot of comedy relief in it, Part 8, 9 and 10 also had it's share of comedy relief too..
So it's not Ronny's fault, he's the director, not the writer, the writer is the one who added the comedy to the script....

But in the end a movie is a lot like a football team, and the director the head coach. And, if the team/movie sucks and doesn't live up to expectations than the man at the helm, the man who had control of the direction of the team/movie, is the one who has to take the blame, because in the end all the glory is his in a success and all the blame in a failure.

Well like you said, we don't always see things the same way, but it's all good.. I liked the cast of Bride of Chucky, but even though I liked FvJ, the only good actor in that movie was Robert Englund. The rest of the cast were not all that great and that is Ronny Yu's fault for choosing a cast who can't act...
But like I said, in Bride of Chucky, the cast all do a good job IMO

Okay, I loved Jennifer Tilley, I love Brad Dourif as Chucky (or in anything else for that matter), and John Ritter is permanently awesome but the whole premise to my mind was stupid. I honestly think when you have a cast that good you should do a lot more with it than Bride of Chucky managed.
As far as the cast of FvJ, yeah, real poor casting job and proof that Jason Ritter did not inherit his dad's acting skills.

I think one of the main reasons I really liked Bride of Chucky is because I like the combination of comedy and slasher/horror and the formula used in Bride of Chucky works perfectly IMO.
Chucky and Freddy movies both share that same kind of campy slasher formula and I luv it...

Yeah, that's the big difference I see between us, locdasmoke. I prefer my horror darker and more serious, whereas you enjoy the more campy aspects, probably why we can't find much in middle ground on this movie.

Yeah, but if I want to laugh I'll watch Jerry Seinfeld, not Jason Voorhees.

Yeah we definitely have different tastes in comedy lol... Comedy I like (besides slasher comedy) is Cheech & Chong, Hang Over, Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Seth Rogan, and stuff like that and oh yeah, can't forget all my favorite hood comedies like Friday, How High and stuff like that too...
