So the new AMC Fear Fest schedule for 2017 and the best word I can use to describe it is depleted. It'll run from Oct 23-31 instead of the usual two weeks or more. The reason for this? Why it's because AMC Network is going to use the week before to do multiple marathons of their homegrown show The Walking Dead.

I like Walking Dead as much as the next person but why not do those marathons on Oct 9-15 then give Fear Fest its two weeks?

Oh that's not the icing on the cake either. Since the lineup is only 8 or 9 days, there won't  be as many movies aired. Here are the movies being aired:

John Carpenter's Halloween, Halloween 4-H20, 2009's Halloween 2, the 2010 remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Freddy Vs Jason, Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday, Jason X, Child's Play, Curse of Chucky, Cult of Chucky, Annabelle, Thinner, Dreamcatcher, 2004's Dawn of The Dead, Land of The Dead, House of The Dead 1 & 2, 1999's House on Haunted Hill, Return to House on Haunted Hill, 2005's House of Wax, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Army of Darkness, Van Helsing, Lake Placid, Slither and the Leprechaun series.

Ok um what did we fans do to deserve this? We can't have the first six Elm Streets, the first eight Friday The 13ths, Child's Play 2 & 3, the original Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, but we get the Leprechaun franchise?

Oh also they just announced Jamie Lee Curtis is returning to Halloween a few days or weeks ago. Does AMC Network capitalize on it with 1981's Halloween II? Nope. They should be airing that more and more to capitalize on that attention and news. Not only that, but they won't even show Halloween III: Season if The Witch.

I'm tired of this crap. The past few years we got every Friday The 13th, just about every Elm Street and every single Halloween they could get their hands on. We also got Stephen King marathons like crazy and you would think with the MASSIVE success of IT, they would want to capitalize on that and do more and more King movies. What do we get? Two movies and one of them, Dreamcatcher, is considered one of the worst adaptations of all time but the majority of the fans. We can't even have Silver Bullet! Are you KIDDING ME?

I'm fed up. They bend over backwards to kiss the ass of The Walking Dead which I am a fan of. But instead of doing that a week before like I suggested and then giving Fear Fest the two weeks or more, Walking Dead gets more time than ever before.

I don't mind if they show TWD but this is oversaturating us fans. It's THEIR show. They can show it anytime they want. But they use it to make the excuse oh here's why Fear Fest gets only 8 or 9 days. Congrats it's the 100th episode. That's no excuse to take away time from something fans and viewers look forward to every year.

Sorry about the rant but it's pathetic that we get the short end of the stick because they would rather promote their own show. Why can't they mix in movies and Walking Dead episodes? They've done that before but this yr for some reason it's not allowed. I'm sorry to say this but I'd rather see networks like FX, ElRey, IFC and Spike aka The Paramount Network show the movies. I know IFC is related to AMC Network but they don't cannibalize movies on their channel.

I'm tired of this. Enjoy being a joke of a channel AMC Network. You know the saddest thing? Once Christmas rolls around you know that the channel will go out of their way to show nothing but holiday movies 24/7. Weeks on end. They already got rid of Fear Friday. Looks like Fear Fest could be next with this garbage going on. Good job AMC Network. You alienate the fans who appreciate marathons we wait to see every year. No wonder people would rather use DVDs, blu rays, videos and streaming services and get rid of cable and satellite.

Sorry again about the rant but it just burns me up. What a pathetic and sad excuse for an event this yr.

Also just noticed that they're not even going to show any Tobe Hooper movies and only one George A. Romero movie. So the original Night of The Living Dead is public domain and they've shown it without fail the past few years. Yet they can't do that this year? Would've been a nice tribute to the man who revolutionized the zombie genre. More proof AMC Network is shortsighted.

There is.. plus alot of cut scenes or added tv ones are hilarious. Even the censored swearing.  Off subject the TV version of CASINO and goodfellas is so hilarious because of the cuts and censorship.

The tv version of From Dusk Till Dawn is amazing on that topic!

But yeah I miss being able to turn on channels like TNT & USA to watch these movies. That's why I always loved to watch them on AMC Fear Fest. Just sad to see Fear Fest turn into basically an after thought in the minds of AMC Network execs.

I really hope it'll rebound next yr.

Next year will be even worse because it will be 8 more episodes of The Walking Dead they have to fit in! They should just have a real 2 WEEKS Fear Fest with a host! Hell they can just use their golden boy Chris Hardwick I mean he's at AMC Studios filming some talk show 24 hours a day anyways! Just give him a few lines to read before a commercial break! "Hey guys wasn't it cool to see Jason kill that guy who played Bernie in Weekend At Bernies with a tree trimmer? Yeah? Well we will be right back with more after this commercial break!"

I know what you mean Stealth. Not only that but TWD and Fear The Walking Dead are gonna cross over soon I heard too so more Walking Dead content. I don't mind the show but like you said, they need to have a real two weeks for Fear Fest. They had been upping the amount of time.

I rechecked the topic of AMC Fear Fest 2016 and well, we got 19 days for last yr. How do we go from 19 to 8 or 9? Come on AMC Network get it together. I don't know why they can't do movie marathons and episodes of Walking Dead for two or three weeks altogether. They have to be doing this as a cost cutting measure.

Last yr the lineup was really beefed up. We got movies from major franchises like Elm Street, Friday The 13th and Halloween coming out the wazoo, along with marathons of Stephen King movies and they were all able to share the screen with episodes of The Walking Dead without slighting the fans. Now it's depleted to the max and a shell of its former self.

I was so happy with the 2016 Fear Fest. It was a good variety and now we get 9 days. What a joke. I don't care if it's the 100th episode of The Walking Dead or not. There is no excuse for this pathetic schedule.

Oh btw, for Friday, October 13th this yr, they're only showing JGTH, JX and FVJ. None of the other Friday The 13th movies. So much for Fear Fri...oh wait they discontinued that for WALKING DEAD. Yeah it's getting bad. I really hope they pull a 180 next yr and give us fans back our true lineup.

I hate the fucking dramatic walking dead show and everything about it. Ive watched it many times and think its trash. This whole zombie trend is about to die down and in place will be clowns all over the place thanks to the success of IT.  The thing thats bugs me the most is alot of the people that are so into walking dead werent really big horror fans to begin with (at least with the friends i talk to) and claim they are now because of how big the show got. Trendhoppers they will jump on the next trend and milk it to death.

The best thing about walking dead tho is greg nicotero and his amazing effects.  Sorry RANT over.

I like your opinion and I agree. The show is going to end up going too long. People said shows like Smallville went too long. At least Smallville had a great cast that could keep the show going. The Walking Dead is going to run too long and be the show people go "hey remember how good that show was? What happened?" The cast is decent but it's gone on too long because the book is still going.

If the channel wants to do a celebration for TWD good on them. Don't take time away from our tradition to do it though. Do it before or after but to take away 10 days so they can do a week of marathons for a show that is limping along? Garbage.

Oh two more things. First they've added Predator, Predator 2 and Alien Vs Predator to the schedule.

Second, they said on twitter how we need to forgive them that the schedule is only about a week long. They said oh we need time to show all seven seasons of TWD. Give me a break Network. You want to show all seven seasons? Do it before Fear Fest THEN give the schedule the two or three weeks it deserves. lol the fans on twitter ripped them up and down in response to that remark of needing time to show all seven seasons.

Almost forgot they said on twitter that Halloween day they'll air all the Halloween movies. Unless they're gonna surprise us, and I doubt it, their version of all of them means excluding Halloween II, III and the Rob Zombie reboot.

They also said watch out for Jason this Friday. For what? The three they actually air? They're not even airing the first eight movies. The twitter account also said these are the best movies to watch this halloween and included a bunch of posters. The only one included they're airing? John Carpenter's Halloween. Epic fail.

This type of thing is going the way of the dinosaurs. We live in a world where anyone can watch any show at any time and watch it in HD. No one truly has schedules anymore when it comes to shows they watch.

For this to continue, they have to start phasing out certain things and focus on specific shows that a larger audience is currently into.

This is why they're shoving TWD down your throat instead of a smorgasbord of horror films.

Yeah but like Kat said there's just this nostalgia about watching them on tv u know? It's like I remember watching Buffy ad Saved By The Bell marathons on tv when those used to happen a lot. It seems like the SBTB marathons happened just about every Friday night on TBS and Buffy ones were on FX, Logo and Chiller. I remember very specifically that FX did a Buffy marathon called Buffy's Back To School Bash and that was fun. Nowadays, networks don't seem to try u know? I really hope AMC Network reverses course next yr and expands the Fear Fest lineup back to double digits. Why they couldn't include eps of TWD in Fear Fest like they did before I have no idea.

Speaking of nostalgia, I remember the first time I saw the giant ant movie THEM! was on Fear Fest. Same with the original The Creature From The Black Lagoon and Silver Bullet. I was really hoping those movies would be a part of it this year. Sad to see that even with the massive success of IT this year, AMC Network is only showing two King movies. So many titles they could show. Hope that changes for the better next year too. I loved how they used to kick off Fear Fest with marathons for the big franchises like Halloween, Friday The 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street and great movies from Stephen King.

I was even thinking maybe they could show Creepshow and celebrate King and Romero this yr. Havent seen Creepshow on tv since I was a kid!

What's the first Fear Fest lineup everyone can remember?
