Rooney Mara Didn't Want A Nightmare on Elm Street
News
by Ryan Turek

Currently, she's known as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Lisbeth Salander, but in early 2010, horror fans saw her as the new Nancy Thompson in A Nightmare on Elm Street.  And it's that latter film Mara speaks frankly about in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.  Apparently the experience on that film bummed her out.  Don't fret, Mara, watching the movie bummed us out, too.

Mara told EW the 2010 remake was a role she didn't really want.  "And then I went in [to audition] and I was like, "F**k, I definitely got that," she says.

Later in the interview, she details what happened after the film.

"I didn't want to act anymore.  I was like, This isn't what I signed up for.  If this is what my opportunities are going to be like, then I'm not that interested in acting.  So I was very discouraged and disheartened.  And then I got the Social Network script.  That kind of inspired me."

For the full interview, pick up the January 6 issue of EW which is now on stands.

So what? She expected to go instantly into a big blockbuster movie?I actually started watching Girl with the Dragon Tattoo online and turned it off about 1/4 of the way in because it was boring me.

Wow, this girl, who is famous solely because her Grandfathers on both sides own NFL franchises and are insanely rich (you know, a Celebritard), has the nerve to complain about getting a job that she didn't deserve and will never on her best day be as good as the originator of the role on her worst day in? Some people are simply not grateful for all the undeserved opportunities they've been handed in life. She's also full of shit, if she didn't want it, she only had to say no. She's just trying to position herself as some sort of "serious" actress now. Just another case of the big head.

What a snob. She sucked in the remake anyhow. I'm surprised she got another job

I didn't like her in the Nightmare remake but I thought she was alright in the Social Network and I still want to see the remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It does sound like she might be a snob now that she is getting better film roles. I'm sure that any girl would have loved to portray that role in the Nightmare film so maybe that's why Rooney's performance wasn't up to par because she wasn't into it.

So because of this news development does that mean there possibly won't be another Nightmare film or will they recast her role? Or just start fresh ala, the original Nightmare 2. I can't see her going from a David Fincher film back to a role in a slasher film.

I thought I read that Jackie Earle Haley was signed on to portray Freddy 2 or 3 more times. I don't know how successful it would be to have another Nightmare film, versus another Friday the 13th which was more entertaining in my opinion.

I have to agree completely, SK. I just can't really see them being able to get much more mileage out of a remade Nightmare series, especially not if Rooney Mara doesn't at least come back to die. Plus with Freddy's revenge (the motivation of revenge, not the original sequel) being so localized to just those kids from that preschool and not limited to Elm Street once Nancy and Quinton are dead there's really nothing left for him to do. I think they've pretty much gotten all they're going to get out of this version of Freddy.

It's quite the opposite with the new Friday the 13th though. I think Derek Mears is an AWESOME Jason, almost on the Hodder/Brooker level, and the movie was well done all the way around. I really do believe we'll see a few more out of this "new" series (still feels more like a sequel, imho.) Hopefully they'll stick with Mears for at least a while, I really enjoyed him as Jason.

I don't think we'll be seeing sequels to either F13th or NOES remakes anytime soon. Despite the rumors. Hollywood only wants to put money into films that will guarantee or hope to guarantee big earnings w/ the shitty economy as of late. Which sucks for us horror fans.

As for Ronney Mara, the funny thing is I had NO fucking idea who that was until I read this post and I have the NOES remake on BD! LOL!! That's how memorable her performance was. To be fair though, I don't even think Robert Englund and Heather Langenkamp could have saved that crap. That's how poorly written that script was imo. I didn't think it was possible to fall asleep from boredom during a NOES flick but I did and I got screwed out of $17.99 on a BD! My fault though as I should have rented it 1st. Oh well. Live and learn.

Once all the buzz around "The Girl" series dies down  she's going to be forgotten completely. I also think you're right about the script, at least in some parts. There were a few good moments, but there were also some serious turds in that punchbowl, too.
