No casting has been announced thus far, but expect some updates once the untitled David Goyer projects gets rolling. This shouldn't effect the planned February 13, 2009 release date by New Line Cinema. The remake, which will be directed by Marcus Nispel, will focus on Jason Voorhees -- who will wear the mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake.

Dec. 5th, 2007
From Fangoria: Finally, there is the one movie that fans most want to see Manfredini involved with: Marcus Nispel’s upcoming FRIDAY THE 13TH remake. “At this point I don’t know,” admits the composer of his potential involvement with the new Jason Voorhees opus. “I have not had any calls, but I would like very much to do it.”

The remake will focus on Jason Voorhees -- who will wear the infamous mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake.

Casting information in spoiler space:
Spoiler (hover to show)

Oct. 2nd, 2007
From Fangoria - It's been reported previously elsewhere, but just for the record... The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that FREDDY VS. JASON scripters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (pictured) will return to that territory to write the FRIDAY THE 13TH remake for Platinum Dunes and New Line. The new movie, to be produced by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, will both explore Jason's origins and get him into the hockey mask he didn't don until the third in Paramount's original film series. It's not clear at this point if Jonathan (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING) Liebesman, who was attached to direct the FRIDAY redux a year or so back, is still involved; you can read Form and Fuller's comments on the project from that period here. —Michael Gingold

Sept. 18th, 2007
From BD - Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, the duo behind New Line Cinema's successful Freddy vs Jason, have both been attached to write a new screenplay for Platinum Dunes' remake of Friday the 13th, according to Shocktillyoudrop. No word yet on what the story will be or if Jonathan Liebesman (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) is still attached to direct. Watch for more news as it develops and keep your fingers crossed for Jason Voorhees back in theaters in 2008.

Another movie starring Jason? Who wouldn't be stoked?   I just hope they keep most of the same elements of the originals, Which I can see them not doing seeing as how they're seperate companies. Not saying Rob Zombie did a bad job with Halloween but I didn't like the huge amount of differences, and I wouldn't like to see the same thing happen to Friday the 13th's storyline. Jason's origins are fine as they are, But i'd love to see them in better description in another movie / prequel type.

I think thats whats going to kill this remake though.

If they say, out loud, that Jason is "supernatural because *state reason here* " I think it will sound lame...just about ANYTHING they could say there would be lame. At least to me. I mean we know he is in some sense, but I don't really need that spelled out for me.

And my god, what if they decide that he got the idea of the hockey mask from his childhood, and we see a little kid Jason running around with this HUGE hockey mask on

So the duo who wrote that 'versus' movie will also write this one? That can't be good. I should hope that Bay would know what it is that us fans want to see (which he proved with TCM, if you ask me) and that the right director would be appointed for this.
In other words: I hope that this movie won't be as messed up as that 'versus' movie.

Absolutely pitiful. Shall we get a poor little hydrocephalic with puppy-dog eyes and a primal urge to kill yet again?

What the hell is with this need to "explain" shit?  Can they not think of a good plotline, so they make up some lame exposition about "why" they do what they do and call that a story??

At this point, why even bother explaining anything?  Jason is an icon, he doesn't need a fucking background check.  I swear to fucking god, if they pin some kind of bullshit child abuse angle to Jason's past I'm gonna bring so much violence and mayhem to Mr. Bay's doorstep, he's gonna envy my ass before his heart stops beating.  Freddy Vs Jason

I look forward to this.

But how is it gonna be a horror movie? Did Jason kill as a child or what?

Beyond which, hasn't it been "explained" already? Unlike with Michael and Leatherface, there's absolutely nothing about his past we don't already know.

Do you know why Jason keeps coming back from the dead? Or how? That's something us fans can only guess about, wouldn't you agree?!

Um, nooooooo.  The moment he was struck by lightning in part 6, he became inhuman, an unstoppable walking corpse bent on continuing his vengeance upon helpless campers.  There's no guessing to it.

What other explanation would you need beyond him being undead?  That's like asking for a more thorough explanation as to why Superman flies.

There is something you guys need to understand about storytelling.  Thorough exposition STOPS the story from unfolding.  It stops the movie right on it's tracks.  That is why filmmakers rely on minimal exposition and "visual" storytelling to get the point across.  Use your common sense to figure things out.  Put story elements together.

You want some bookworm popping out of nowhere explaining every detail as to why Jason is unstoppable?  The one continuing failure with these slasher film remakes and remakes all together, is over-explaining.

You take away their mystique by doing that.  You end up getting to know this villain as if he's your best friend.  It takes the fear factor away from them.

They should keep these things subtle and ambiguous.  That generates the fear of the unknown, and thus makes the villain all the more legendary and above all else FRIGHTENING.

Just have to accept that we weren't put on this Earth to "get it", especially about the supernatural and the paranormal.
